Are you ever surprised at finding yourself in a position that you never intended or expected?
I can remember a few situations that I found myself in, which were completely unexpected.
Spending my 25th birthday on the runway at Athens airport, en route for Burundi with Ruanda Mission was very unexpected…..finding myself moving to Staffordshire from Lancashire in my thirties, was not planned and took place within two months……being told I was expecting my first child at the age of 40 was somewhat of a shock, albeit a welcome one…… finding myself in a French hospital after collapsing in a restaurant whilst on holiday was a complete shock, as was being told I had multiple sclerosis some 3 months later..and finding myself retired from a working life of 30yrs+ due to my ms was also not on my agenda – but perhaps God had other plans. For that was the year the Disciple course arrived at Berkswich Church and with it, a very strong sense of being called to take part in what would turn out to be an eight year amble through the bible and a wonderful time of friendship and fellowship, together with a revelation of the gifts God had given me and with it a few prods and pushes…and almost 5yrs of side-stepping the issue – into the direction of local preaching.
And so, I am back where I started. Finding myself in a position I had never expected, at the start of training for local preaching. Who, me? Yes, me…totally unexpected and not a little daunting, yet I am aware of God’s assurance of being in the right place at the right time.
So, perhaps the lesson is to expect the unexpected where God is concerned. Who knows what is just around the corner……not me, but thankfully God does. And that reminds me, I’ve an assignment to finish……..

Thanks for this Jean. A very inspiring little jaunt through God’s impact on your life. I’m glad you are still being surprised by him and I look forward to getting to know you as a colleague in the work of being Mr. Wesley’s preachers.
Every blessing,
Pete
